Four Moves To Make In Dynasty Fantasy Football Right Now

Four Transactions For Dynasty Fantasy Football In March

Football seems to be a long ways away, but I promise that it isn't. Before you know it, we will have free agency, the NFL Draft, organized team activities and then boom, preseason. Dynasty fantasy football is going to be won in the offseason. Having the foresight to project how teams will behave in NFL free agency and during the NFL Draft will provide you buying and selling opportunities that your league mates won't have caught up to yet. With that idea in mind, these are four transaction ideas for dynasty fantasy football to help you win your league in 2019 and beyond.

Trade For 2019 Second Round Rookie Dynasty Fantasy Football Picks

More so than most years in dynasty fantasy football, there is not a clear consensus for first-round rookie picks. The running back class tested particularly poorly at the combine which will cause a good chunk of them to fall in the real NFL draft and also in rookie dynasty drafts. Devin Singletary, Elijah Holyfield, and David Montgomery all did not test well and the potential star of the class (Josh Jacobs) didn't run at the combine at all. The lightning rod tight ends, Noah Fant and T.J Hockenson, will be pushed up as a result of the running backs sliding. Generally, running backs who have a shot at playing time don't fall easily to the second round of rookie dynasty fantasy football drafts but they will this year. The cost of acquiring seconds is normally not great and I am looking at getting them thrown into trades this year because with the talent in this class being flatter, I think that a second has more value than in most years.

Sell Adam Thielen In Dynasty Fantasy Football

It is tempting to see Thielen's 100+ yard streak from last season and expect that great things will continue. There are a few trends that suggest he is a better sell than a hold or buy, however. The first is that he is older than you would think. Thielen will start the 2019 NFL season at the age of 29 which is already beginning to be past peak performance for wide receivers. Stefon Diggs, comparatively, is only 25. The general research conducted on aging in football would suggest a slight shift of volume towards Diggs over Thielen for the next few years, though their dynasty ADP is very close to one another. I am not suggesting that you should take 50 cents on the dollar for Thielen but the fact that he is starting to enter post-prime territory while his talented wide receiver teammate is hitting his prime suggests that his age-28 season might have been his ceiling.

Buy Ito Smith In Dynasty Fantasy Football

With Tevin Coleman almost certainly not playing for the Atlanta Falcons in 2019 and Devonta Freeman returning from a season where he barely played due to injury, Ito Smith is perhaps my favorite buy in dynasty leagues. He is being treated like a third-string running back in ADP at the moment but that doesn't make any sense. The Falcons have historically wanted to use another running back in tandem with their lead rusher and Smith proved himself capable of either role last season while Freeman and Coleman both struggled with injuries. I personally have elevated Smith in my rankings quite highly. The ability to acquire a running back who could reasonably project for 30% of his teams touches cheaply rarely happens in dynasty fantasy football so I would suggest acting sooner rather than later.

Trade For Tyler Kroft In Dynasty Fantasy Football

Per the Cincy Jungle, "C.J. Uzomah, Tyler Eifert and Tyler Kroft are all set to hit free agency." This creates an obvious buying window on Kroft for several reasons. It is unlikely that the Bengals would hold all three of these receiving tight ends so the scenarios are as follows. First, the Bengals opt to just pay one of the three (likely letting Eifert go and returning Kroft or Uzomah). Second, the Bengals retain none of the three and finally that they retain two of them. Kroft seems the most likely to return to Cincinnati which I expect to be a +EV situation in 2019 with new head coach Zac Taylor. In our projections for RotoExperts, I have the Bengals set to be one of the more improved offensive teams year over year. However, even if Kroft does leave the Bengals, it stands to reason he would be signing with a team that sees the potential for Kroft to do what he did in 2017 when he had 42 receptions for 402 yards and seven touchdowns. Kroft was actually a high draft pick (especially for a tight end) and a good prospect coming out of Notre Dame. For how cheap he would be to acquire, he is one of my favorite dynasty buys.
